The ship in own clory. Photo from www.telegraph.co.uk
After the Silja Europa model completing I searched a new ship for modeling from five great ships. They were Artania, Crystal Serenity, Asuka II, Balmoral and Prinsendam. Finally, I took the Prinsendam. I choose she because the ship is unique, has beautiful design and lovely inside. She is Holland-America line ship. She is the most elegant and intimate cruise ship in their fleet. I like such ships as the Prinsendam is because furniture is cozy and not very colorful and her ouside design is ellegant as large jacht. I have never been on the Prinsendam but I can say the ship is wonderful and beaceful. Small size allow her sail in small pay and visit difference and smaller places. The Prinsendam is unique ship, she hasn't sister. Former names are Rojal viking Sun and Seabourn Sun. She is sun ship, sun shine top of the vessel and bring luck.
This all went in my heart and the model help to keep up the great vessel. Ships tire of work and leave for old iron ever if nobody restaure them and keep as museum, restaurant or hotel. Huge number of ships finish in scrap yard after long life at sea. Hopefully this time remain in far future for the Prinsendam. Personally I think, the prinsendam be worthy of being in my models collection.
I started to build the model on 2011 September. Build mode is same as I used for the Silja Europa. Hull material is glass plastic. Steel and wooden is basic material on small details. Silja europa model hull form help shape stern and bow. I avoid bought details but engine is still from shops. My purpose is make she as a real cruise ship. I will put lights in, build out balconies and deck chairs, pool, terrace, opened decks and any others. It also will sail as a true ship by radio control. My model scale is 1/200. So she is 102 cm long. It become my the biggest modeling work. The work takes time more than 5 years. If she will be completed I will show her on models show or race at models race.
